Like any other employee or executive, you know that working in the office can cause a great deal of stress. Angry clients, incompetent co-workers, numerous deadlines, demanding bosses - the list just goes on. But what many people do not know about is that much of this stress starts before you step into the office. In many cases, stress begins on the road. Yes, driving to the office can cause a real headache. Erring motorists, heavy traffic, and street noise all contribute to a negative, tired, and irritable day. Here are some ways on how to deal with stress on the road.
First, allot extra time on the road. Cutting it too close to the start of office hours increases blood pressure and causes a lot of stress because you need to drive fast and dodge traffic. It also increases the chances of being involved in road accidents. However, leaving the house early gives you more time to relax on the road. Next, make your car a relaxing haven. That means clearing up clutter, tidying the interior, and freshening up the air inside the car. Furthermore, keep your briefcase, laptop, documents, and other materials in the backseat. Glancing at your work equipment on the front passenger seat makes you think about work while on the road, which can make you feel stressed out.
Playing soft, gentle music can alleviate stress as well. You may also want to install other equipment that can help you calm down such as an in-seat massager. Finally, if you have one, use your on-board navigation system to find alternative routes where you can avoid heavy traffic. If none, listen to traffic updates from your radio.
